What brought you to the ADAC?
I used to think personal trainers were just for serious athletes or people who were way too into themselves. (And now that I’ve insulted people, let me clarify that I no longer think that!) But about seven months ago, I realized it was a medical necessity for me because I was having serious pain issues and a lot of it was because of the way I was moving. I had pain flare-ups every time I tried to work out and I couldn’t do a lot of the things I enjoyed without significant pain, like carrying a backpack, shopping, or hauling groceries around the farmer’s market. I met Velma through Active Edge Chiropractic and she brought me to ADAC.
What is your favorite thing to do at the club?
Going to Velmanator Boot Camps—yes they are early and yes they are hard, but we also have fun and I enjoy the challenge.
What is your normal workout routine for a week?
I go to boot camp three times per week, spin classes twice a week, swim twice a week, and do PT once a week. I also enjoy riding my bike, hiking, and anything involving the outdoors.
What fitness goals or milestones have you achieved here at the gym or elsewhere?
I have alleviated most of my pain and it continues to improve. I am very excited that now I can work out hard without hurting myself and do the things I enjoy again. I have more energy than ever. Now that the limitations I had for so long are fading away, I like pushing my body to see just how far it can go.
What are you eating?
I love eating local food, especially all the fresh veggies and fruits that are in season right now. I also get most of my beef and chicken from local farms, and farm fresh eggs are so much better!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I eat butter without reserve—judge if you want, but my cholesterol is always perfect! I also love Green and Black’s dark chocolate—it’s the only chocolate I will eat.
What cause do you champion?
Knowing where my food comes from and how it was raised. I am a big believer in voting with your wallet.
Do you have a pet?
Not at the moment, although I love animals and grew up with cats, dogs, rabbits, and horses.
What hobbies do you have?
Skiing, horseback riding, camping, and traveling to new places
How would you make the world a better place?
If people could learn to care more about each other than making money (by exploiting and stepping on people and poisoning the same planet we’re all stuck on) I think it would go a long way.
List your favorite (feel free to elaborate if you like)
Favorite author?
So many…at the moment, Tracie Peterson
Favorite song?
Again, so many…I like Fight Song by Rachel Platten right now
What’s on your Ipod?
I’m pretty open to whatever—pop, rap, country
Favorite TV show?
I don’t have a TV, but I like it that way. I watch whatever Netflix puts on streaming maybe once a week.
Favorite movie?
I like the classics like Sound of Music. I also enjoy watching animated movies with my neice (or okay, without her). And watching really stupid movies when I’m tired because they seem so much funnier.
Favorite sport or sports team?
I don’t watch them because I don’t have a clue what’s going on
Favorite store?
I love the Jeffersonville outlets and TJ Maxx—in other words, finding good deals
Favorite food(s)?
Chocolate! I could not survive without it
Favorite restaurant?
Northstar or Till, but I also like Chipotle
