Top 10 Fittest Metro Areas in America in 2016
Top 10 Fittest Metro Areas in America in 2016
Which U.S. metropolitan areas are the fittest? The ninth annual American Fitness Index (AFI) Report released this month by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and funded by The Anthem Foundation reveals its picks for the fittest metro areas as well as the least fit.
“Cities that ranked near the top of the index have more strengths and resources that support healthy living and fewer challenges that hinder it,” the report’s executive summary reads. “The opposite is true for cities near the bottom of the index. All cities are commended for their areas of excellence and encouraged to focus future efforts on their improvement priority areas to achieve a healthy and active population.”
The three top metro areas showed increased walking by residents using public transportation, more parkland for exercise, and lower cardiovascular and diabetes issues.
