Trainer Spotlight – Brittany Lewis
I have been with ADAC in some way shape or form for as long as I can remember. I started off taking fitCAMP with a friend around 2007 or 2008. That was a real eye opener as to how unfit I had become. In 2009 I was laid off from a job and struggling with depression. I joined the gym so I would have something that felt productive to do with my days. Someone suggested I try something more intense to relieve my frustrations and stress and hopefully help with my depression.
I decided to start training, specifically kick boxing, with Charles. That was probably when I realized the gym could be a big tool in helping me turn my life around. The classes became a way for me to still feel like I had a schedule. I’d do cardio in the morning, training one afternoon a week, boot camp with Lara on Tues/Thurs and fitCAMP at night. I was here a lot! The years went on and I went through a few jobs but always stayed on at the gym, though I couldn’t be here 2-3 times a day anymore.
Finally after I was laid off again in 2012 when my job relocated to Miami I decided it was time to make a career change. Since the gym had been my biggest motivation and support for the previous
4 years it seemed like a good idea to make it a bigger part of my life. I attended CSCC where I received an associate’s degree in Sports and Exercise Science. I began working at the club in 2013 as a part time employee.
When I graduated I became full time as the Member Services Coordinator. This means I manage all the clubs new member and corporate wellness classes. I also help manage the class schedule. Once I became certified as a trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine I started training clients of my own. I recently became certified in FMS (functional movement screenings) as well.
This career change has been one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. I get to help people. I get to be a part of positive change in their lives. That’s what ADAC did for me, now I get to give back by hopefully giving that same feeling to as many members as I can.
